![]() ![]() Security updates are great because they help keep your site secure and stable, but be aware that this does not change the fact that Drupal 7 is no longer being actively developed in terms of new features. Whoever keeps your Drupal codebase happy and healthy now can continue to safely do so for an extra year beyond the original planned November 2021 “end of life” for Drupal 7. It means that the Drupal Security Team will keep watch on the Drupal 7 codebase for an additional year, into November 2022, and release security updates as needed. This is good news for nonprofit organizations on Drupal 7 who don’t have funds, capacity, and/or time for a rebuild right now. ![]() We’re on Drupal 7, but we’re not ready for a rebuild. The Drupal Security Team will continue to follow the Security Team processes for Drupal 7 core and contributed projects. Given the impact of COVID-19 on budgets and businesses, we will be extending the end of life until November 28, 2022. Previously, Drupal 7's end-of-life was scheduled for November 2021. ![]() This past Wednesday, the Drupal Security Team announced: We’ll attempt to tackle some of those questions here. Millions of websites depend on D7 & D8, why are they doing this?.What is Drupal End of Life (EOL), why should I care, & what does it mean to me?.In this essential DrupalCon session, join the team from Tag1, for a deep dive on the following topics. To date, only 2 organizations, including Tag1, have been authorized to provide commercial support services for legacy versions of Drupal. ![]() Vendor Extended Support started when Drupal 6 was designated EOL around 5 years ago. To ensure organizations that rely on these platforms can continue to securely run, operate, and build on top of their applications, a select number of organizations will be authorized to provide paid commercial support through an official Drupal 7 Vendor Extended Support (D7ES). Upon reaching EOL, the automated testing for D7 & D8, which is critical for development & updates, will be turned off and there will be no more official releases, bug fixes, security team patches, etc. Their popularity, combined with potentially difficult upgrade paths for D7 in particular, has site owners asking why this is happening, what it means for them, what they can do about it, and when they need to deal with all this. Over a million websites rely on Drupal 7 & D8, and both reach the end of life (EOL) in 2022 (recently extended from 2021). ![]()
